Miles For Mitzi 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
Miles For Mitzi 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk: race description
This event was started after Mitzi Moye, the school's beloved advisor, was struck by a van on her morning run on June 24, 2015. The school community, along with friends and family, rallied together after the accident, running miles in her honor (#milesformitzi). The Miles for Mitzi 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk was created to honor Mitzi, celebrate her recovery, and to promote awareness of runner road safety. As we move into the second annual event, we have changed the name of the race from Miles FOR Mitzi to Miles WITH Mitzi to acknowledge Mitzi's miraculous return to running. This annual event will continue as a way to promote runner road safety and to facilitate students' community service projects. Net proceeds from the race will be donated to The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Vidant and a service fund for SERV, the school's service organization.
The out and back 5K course is a flat course and will start and finish on the Arendell Parrott Academy campus. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will follow the 5K and will be held entirely on the school's campus. Awards and refreshments will be available after the races.
