Veterans Honor Run - Scranton: race description
The Scranton Veterans Memorial Park Committee, which is run by veterans, is committed to building a memorial park at Valor Field at Scranton Veterans Memorial Stadium that honors Scranton’s veterans who died in defense of our great nation. We will name them on a monument. These veterans served in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. They were lost in one of these wars: World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, or the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. An exact number has yet to be determined, but will include veterans from Scranton who gave, as Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address, “the last full measure of devotion.” For nearly 100 years, Scranton has sent young men and women, some only 17 or 18 years old, across oceans to fight wars in defense of freedom. Help us tell their stories, and not forget them or what they accomplished. Many are buried overseas. The remains of some have never been recovered. We honor them all with this memorial. The committee and other groups, known as “,We the People”,, honor these veterans and will name them on this monument.
