Magnolia Mile: race description
Requiring the speed of a sprinter but the guts of a marathoner, the mile race is a distance that children and adults alike find achievable but competitive –, an experience providing bragging material for years of boisterous tale-telling.
No better location in Fort Worth provides the perfect elements for a mile race than West Magnolia Avenue. Known for its promotion of the arts, music, food and a more walkable lifestyle, the neighborhood and tree-lined street is also ideal for a very FAST mile race. Combining the spirit of the mile with the spirit of Magnolia, the Magnolia Mile will surely be a festive, family affair.
Near Southside, Inc. (NSI)
formerly Fort Worth South, Inc. is a nonprofit redevelopment organization dedicated to revitalizing the Near Southside. In addition to leading a wide range of redevelopment initiatives, NSI presents community events forneighborhood residents and regional visitors. Proceeds from the Magnolia Mile will help sustain NSI’s signature events, including:
ArtsGoggle: a grassrootsart festival in October showcasing hundreds of local artists and musicians and attracting roughly 30,000 visitors to Magnolia Village and other NearSouthside destinations,
Friday on the Green: a wildly popular outdoor concert series presented on the second Friday, April-October, which has helped launch local artists such as Leon Bridges and Luke Wade to the national stage,
Open Streets: a community-driven event that closes Magnolia Avenue to cars on a Sunday afternoon in April and opens the roadway up to bikes, skaters, and a wide range of engaging activities and family fun, and
Chili on the Green: a culinary battle in November featuring a dozen teams fromthe neighborhood, hundreds of hungry chili judges, great live music, and a fun afternoon catching up with friends.
As each grows in popularity and scope, these treasured events require additional support from community-minded partners. The Magnolia Mile will play a key role in ensuring NSI is able to continue and consistently improve their events program.
