Cary Fire House Tour Marathon
Cary Fire House Tour Marathon: race description
“,Going the Extra Mile”,
We are paying tribute to our friend and fellow firefighter Jon Schondelmayer who spent 20 years working his way through almost every station before passing in December of 2013 in a line of duty-related death. In it's first year this grassroots event was open to only 75 runners from the Fire Department community but this year its open to the public!
The event has FIVE race options:
Full Marathon: starts at Fire House 6 (Hwy Ten Ten and Kildare Farm Rd) and finishes at Fire House 8 ( Mills Park Rd. and Green Level Church Rd.). Race individually or as a 5-person relay team.
Half-Marathon: starts near Fire House 1 (N. Harrison and Cary Pkwy) and finishes at Fire House 8. Race individually or as a 3-person relay team.
10K: starts at Fire House 5 (on High House Rd.) and finishes at Fire House 8.
Both the full and half-marathon runners will get to join the Cary Fire Department in their tradition of “,going the extra mile.”,
Relay team member don't need to sign up together all at once. They can sign up individually so long as they select the team name the first person who signed up created (first person pays the registration fee too!). We believe that he who pays gets to pick the team name!
The course winds through greenways and streets alike. The course not only visits almost every Cary fire station you'll also get to actually run through several of the fire station truck bays. All fire stations will act as both rest and accountability stops.
Monies raised will go to purchase holiday gifts that promote healthy, active lifestyles for our under-privileged youth presented. These gifts will be presented to the kids during the Town of Cary's Interact gift-giving program that contacts families directly and awards gifts to them individually.

Proceeds from our events that aren't designated to support other organizations go to support the event and other Fit &, Able nonprofit activities.
