Run4TheChildren: race description

Today, UNICEF estimates the number of orphan children to be 153,000,000. While that number is staggering in size, we believe in “doing for one, what you wish you could do for all”. By running in this race, or donating to it, you are doing your part to meet this crisis head on.

Run4TheChildren began in the Spring of 2011 as a fundraiser to help families adopting children. Many people don’t know that there is a huge financial barrier to adoption. Both local and international adoption can cost the adoptive family upwards of $30,000. There are many families who would consider adoption, but simply cannot afford it. This was on the heart of Dr. Scott Balin when he dreamed up the concept of Run4TheChildren. Each year, Run4TheChildren has brought in funds to help many families bring home their children.

Where and when is Packet Pickup?
Packet Pickup is Thursday &, Friday (2/09 – 2/10) from Noon to 7pm at Lukes Locker in La Centerra.

Can I pick up someone else’s packet?
Yes, please have their confirmation email.

Are iPods allowed on the race course?
Yes, but please be aware of your surroundings, and keep it safe.

What time should I get there on race day?
The race begins at 9am.  You will need to budget time in order for you to warm up properly.  You can arrive as early as you like, but 8am should give you enough time to do all that you need.

Where can I park?
In the back parking lot at The Fellowship  (entrance on Westheimer Parkway) or Williams Elementary, the YMCA or the parking garage at Villagio.  All are available for usage.

How can I help?
Thank you for asking!  We need you to help spread the word.  Share this race on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and tell your friends.  Also, please consider volunteering for this race.  We need lots of folks to make this a successful event.

Does my child need to register?
If they are running the course, yes.

Can I push my children in a stroller?
Yes.  But, please stay to the back of the start corral, for safety of all runners.

Will there be water stations along the route?

What if I can’t make it the full 4 miles?
Funny you should ask, we have a short-cut that will make the route 2 miles.  This short cut follows the bayou, and the entrance is on Mason Road.  The route will be clearly marked.  If you are running the short cut, DO NOT WEAR A RACE BIB.  If you do, it will spontaneously combust and you might get burned.

Will there be post-race activities?
Yes!  Fun for the whole family.  Food vendors, music and fun.  Also a special Kidz Zone for the little ones.
