Good evening.

I'm old but I continue to participate in races around the Golden Ring! I sometimes win these races but, however, want to ask you the following:

  1. Should I take a rest day or two before the race?
  2. Is it advisable to do a speed workout the day before the race?

Thank you in advance!

Good day.

I'm glad that despite your "age" you stay active person.

Usually, it is recommended to reduce the load 7-10 days before the race starts. So, in my opinion, there is no need in a rest day before the race.

Whether or not to do a short speed workout the day before the race it's a rhetorical question. Methodologically, it doesn't really affect anything but I know from my experience that such workout may serve as a kind of psychological preparation before the race and I just needed it.

So, it's only your choice whether you need it or don't need it.
