Good day!

An initial stage of arthrosis is not a verdict and can't be a restriction on physical activity, particularly running. But you should remember that arthrosis has a degenerative component, so, in either case excessive loads affect joints negatively.

For that reasons, I wouldn't drop an idea of doing short runs (3-5 km), but you should follow some recommendations.

First of all, you should have running shoes of good quality with better cushioning and maximum protection, run on dirt tracks at an average pace. Also your diet should be rich with collagen, glucosamin and chondroitin or/and you should take nutritional supplements containing these substances which provide your cartilaginous tissues with sufficient amount of vitamins and necessary nutrients.

Periodical follow-up medical monitoring is required as well. It will help to check whether joints are stable and running doesn't affect negatively or not.

Wish you good health!

Old Partial Meniscal Tear
Question:

Good afternoon,

MR showed old partial meniscal tear.

Sharp pain occurred after running a 9 km and I had to complete my half-marathon distance by walking with broad strides or switching to a race walking in order not to feel the pain.

During a half year I had three attacks of pain. But there was no pain after short runs (7-10 km). Now I gave my knee a week to rest and recover.

What can you recommend? How to recover and return to the earlier level? I'll have to run another race and hope I won't damage the meniscus absolutely(((.
